BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 12, 2022) - The Webber International University men's lacrosse team hosted the No. 4 Keiser University Seahawks in what was the regular-season finale as well as Senior Day on Saturday afternoon. A game that saw seven lead changes would end in a 13-12 defeat for the Warriors.
The Warriors (11-5 overall, 3-4 AAC) would be outshot by the Seahawks (7-4, 6-2) 48-34. Webber forced its opposition into a total of 16 turnovers, however, Keiser had the advantage from the spot, winning 20 of the 29 total face offs.
Keiser would strike first in the game after just 13 seconds. The Warriors would then score three-straight, two goals from
Houston Finlayson as well as a goal from
Alexander Kew, to jump out to a 3-1 lead early on. The Seahawks would respond with three goals of their own to end the quarter to retake the lead heading into quarter number two. Webber would then retake the lead after back-to-back goals from Kew, earning himself the hat-trick and the Warriors the 5-4 lead. Once again, two goals in a three-minute span from the Seahawks would regain them the lead. A pass from
Daniel McClure would find Kew who would find the back of the net for the fourth time with 2:05 remaining, tying the game at six at the halftime break.
Webber would open the third quarter with a goal from
Alex West that would put the Warriors ahead 7-6. That would be the only goal for the Warriors in the third quarter however, as Keiser would score three in a row to end the quarter and take a 9-7 lead. 45 seconds into the final quarter of play, the Seahawks would find the back of the net yet again to take a three-goal lead. The Warriors would then erase that lead, scoring three times in just 60 seconds. First a goal from Kew followed by a man-up goal by
Cade McCarron and finally a goal from
Chase Jackson would tie the game up at 10. Keiser would score a man-up goal to retake the lead before goals from Jackson and
Blake Nelson would earn the Warriors the lead at 12-11. The Seahawks would score twice over the last three and ahalf minutes to retake the lead to end the game. Webber would fire off a shot with seconds left, but it would be just wide and Keiser would take the victory.
The Warriors were led by Kew who ended the game with five goals and one assists for a total of six points, followed by Jackson with two goals and one assist. Finlayson and Nelson both ended with two points while Finlayson had two goals and Nelson finished with a goal and an assist.
Hunter Scott and
Jordan Elam both led the team in ground balls with a total of eight.
Jarrett Monah led the team in caused turnovers with two and goalie
Ayden Kulick would tally 10 saves in his 60 minutes in the cage.
Webber's regular season comes to an end as they now prepare for the start of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship. The Warriors will face Keiser again in a rematch to open the conference tournament. The Seahowks will host the opening round of the tournament which will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 15, in West Palm Beach, Fla.
