BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2022) - The Webber International University men's lacrosse team hosted the No. 1 Reinhardt University Eagles on Saturday afternoon in what was the third conference game of the year. The Warriors kept the game close through three quarters but ultimately fell short in the final quarter, 11-7.
The Warriors (5-3 overall, 1-2 AAC) were heavily outshot by the Eagles (2-0, 2-0) 45-25, however, both teams had a similar number of turnovers and ground balls. Reinhardt also 16 of the 21 total face offs in the game.
Webber would score the first goal of the game less than five minutes in after a goal from
Alex West assisted by
Blake Nelson. Less than two minutes later, a solo goal from
Chase Jackson would put the Warriors up 2-0. Reinhardt would quickly respond with a solo goal of its own just 10 seconds later to cut the lead in half. In the second quarter, the Eagles would score twice in the first two and a half minutes to gain a 3-2 advantage. Jackson would assist a goal to freshman
Jonathan Schrager with just over three minutes left in the half to tie the game at three apiece heading into the halftime break.
Right after the restart, the Eagles would scoop up the face off and score after just six seconds to regain the lead for Reinhardt. Roughly three minutes later, the Warriors would equalize yet again through a goal from
Houston Finlayson. The Eagles would retake the lead a minute later, but the Warriors would refuse to go away. With just under six minutes to go,
Alexander Kew would assist Jackson's second goal of the game to level the game at five heading into the final quarter of play. Reinhardt would start the fourth quarter strong, scoring four-straight in an eight-minute span to take a 9-5 lead with just under seven minutes remaining. The Warriors would score twice in the fourth quarter but the Eagles would do enought to hold off the Warriors for the victory.
Jackson fueled the Warriors offensively, leading the team in both goals and assists with three each for a total of six points. Finlayson ended with two goals followed by Schrager and West each with one.
Jordan Elam led the team with three caused turnovers while adding three ground balls
Riley Roy and
Austin Schepers both finished with three ground balls as well followed by
Steven Landsman with two.
Alex Cordero had an outstanding game in the cage, racking up a total of 20 saves in his 60 minutes in goal.
The Warriors now have just a one-day break before traveling to West Palm Beach, Florida to face Lawrence Tech University on Monday, March 7, at 1 p.m.on the campus of Keiser University.
