Division-II Flagler too much for Warriors in season opener

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (February 9, 2022) - The Webber International University women's lacrosse team opened its 2022 season on Wednesday afternoon as they traveled to face Division-II Flagler College, resulting in a 25-4 loss for the Warriors. It was the inaugural game for the Flagler Saints women's lacrosse team.

The Warriors (0-1 overall) were outshot in the game, finishing with 20 shots in total compared to the 36 of Flagler (1-0). Both teams had an equal number of turnovers, however, the Saints outmatched Webber with ground balls, 32-16.

Flagler jumped out to an early lead, scoring four times in the first five minutes of the game. The first goal for the Warriors came from Sydney Britton with just over seven minutes to go in the first quarter. Webber scored its second goal just over three minutes into the second quarter, this time from Raven Kearse, assisted by Samantha Esher. The Warriors would be held scoreless in quarter number three while the Saints would extend their lead to 21-2 heading into the fourth quarter. Esher would score twice in the final quarter, both unassisted, to double the Warriors tally but Flagler would prove to be too much as they would see out the 25-4 victory in their inaugural game at home.

Esher led the Warriors with three points, tallying two goals and an assist in total. She also led the team in shots with six followed by Kaitlyn Patterson with five and Britton with four. Jordyn Davidson would be in the cage from start to finish for Webber, collecting seven saves.

The Warriors will now return for their home opener on Saturday, February 12th, as they host the No. 3 Life University Running Eagles at 3:30 p.m. on the Warriors Turf Field. It will also be Webber's Mid-South Conference-opener as well.
