BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 24, 2022) – The Webber International University men's volleyball team hosted the Bears of Truett McConnell University in another Mid-South Conference matchup, resulting in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-8) victory for the Warriors.

The Warriors (11-4 overall, 6-1 MSC) outhit the Bears (0-9, 0-7) 37-16 in total kills. Webber also finished the match with a hitting percentage of .358 compared to .033 for Truett McConnell.

Webber started the first set strong, jumping out to an early 9-1 lead. An 11-4 run from the Warriors later in the set would give themselves a comfortable 22-8 lead. It would end up being a comfortable set one victory for the Warriors.

Set two would be the most competitive of the three. Tied at 5-5, the Warriors would then go on a 5-0 run to take a 10-5 lead. The Bears would later tie it back up at 12-12 before a 6-1 run from Webber would regain it the lead at 18-13. Truett McConnell would battle back within one, however, the Warriors would do enough to hold off the Bears and earn the 2-0 lead heading into the third set.

The Warriors were off to a red hot start thanks to
Daniel Hermida, who would deliver seven straight aces to give Webber an early 10-1 lead. Another 7-0 run from the Warriors later in the set would put them ahead 24-7 and they would cruise to a set three victory and complete the sweep of Truett McConnell.

Offensively, Webber was led by Hermida with 10 kills and 11 service aces for his second double-double of the season. He also finished with an impressive hitting percentage of .769. He was followed by
Kevin McCarthy with seven kills on .429 percent hitting.
Lachlan Diamond,
Kajus Mazuronis, and
Luiz Gustavo Silva all finished with four kills each.
Wesley Blazek dished out a season-high 30 assists on the night.

Samuel Pearish led the Warriors defensively with seven digs followed by
Kai Desauguste with four digs, who tallied three kills as well.
Cesar Remedios led the team with three total blocks followed by McCarthy with two.

With Hermida's 11 aces on the night, he is now tied for second in the nation in service aces per set with 0.91. As a team, the Warriors are ranked first in the NAIA in service aces per set at 2.48.

Next up, the Warriors will have a one-day break before hosting St. Andrews University on Saturday, February 26, at 5 p.m.
