BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 16, 2022) - The Webber International University women's beach volleyball team hosted two Division-II opponents on Wednesday, first against Saint Leo University in the morning followed by a match against Palm Beach Atlantic University in the afternoon. The Warriors fell to Saint Leo by a score of 4-1 before a 5-0 defeat to Palm Beach Atlantic.
WEBBER LINEUP MATCH 1:
MATCH 1 (WEBBER 1, SAINT LEO 5):
- The lone win on the day came from the pair of Montana-Rae Pelak and Bailey Sikkema in the No. 2 spot, winning in three sets, 17-21, 23-21, 15-11.
- Lily Arnold and Cindy Garcia Penaloza fell in the No. 1 seed, 21-17, 21-17.
- Jessica Terry and Kiersten Tisdale came up just short in a three set match, 18-21, 23-21, 15-7, in the No. 4 spot.
- Both of the No. 3 and 5 seeds were defeated in two sets as Sara Weisrock and Molly Fusarelli fell 21-13, 21-11 while Brianda Valdez and Nadia Reid lost a tight first set 23-21 before falling 21-17 in set number two.
WEBBER LINEUP MATCH 2:
MATCH 2 (WEBBER 0, PALM BEACH ATLANTIC 5):
- The No. 2 and 4 seeds both forced three sets as Montana-Rae Pelak and Bailey Sikkema lost a close one, 21-14, 17-21, 15-13 in the No. 2 spot while Wandaleen Harris and Kiersten Tisdale were defeated 15-21, 21-11, 15-7.
- The No. 1 seed of Lana Varkentina and Amy Mosely fell in two sets, 21-9, 21-5.
- Sara Weisrock and Molly Fusarelli were defeated 21-11, 21-8 in the No. 3 spot.
- Brianda Valdez and Nadia Reid in the No. 5 seed ultimately fell in two sets as well, 21-11, 21-14.
TEAM RECORDS: Webber would fall to 1-2 overall while Saint Leo would move to 3-1 and Palm Beach Atlantic would begin its season 2-0.
NEXT UP: The Warriors will travel to face No. 9 Ave Maria University in what will be The Sun Conference-opener for both teams on Saturday, February 19, at 11 a.m.
