BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 11, 2022) - The Webber International University baseball team hosted the Conquistadors of Florida National on Friday night for the third time after opening their season with a doubleheader earlier this year. The Warriors earned yet another shutout victory over Florida National to open the three-game series, 4-0.
The Warriors' (8-1 overall) bats were putting in work this time around as they tallied 10 hits in total for the game. Starting on the mound for Webber was
Xavier Rodriguez who was lights out in his seven innings of work. X. Rodriguez did not give up any runs and only allowed two hits while striking out seven along the way.
Dawson Young came in relief in the final two innings and completely shut the Conquistadors (1-8) out after facing six batters and striking out all of them.
Webber would strike first in the bottom of the fifth inning after back-to-back singles from
Kenny Rodriguez and
Tommy Diaz followed by a bunt single from
Tyren Milliner would load the bases.
Bryan Eusebio would be hit by a pitch, bringing home the first run of the game. A sacrifice fly to right field from
Paul Sustachek would score pinch-runner
Tavion Williams to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, Florida National would start the inning by walking the bases loaded. Diaz would be hit by a pitch to score yet another run. Later in the inning, a wild pitch from the Conquistadors would score
Luis Acevedo, making it a four-run game.
Milliner would lead the Warriors offensively going 3-5 with three singles on the night. He was followed by K. Rodriguez who went 2-3 with a run scored and drew a walk as well.
Drake Dobyanski went 1-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. The only extra-base hit of the game would be a double from
Richard Rodriguez, who would finish 1-3 and add a stolen base to his credit.
The Warriors will finish out the three-game series tomorrow, February 12th, as they face Florida National in a doubleheader at 12 and 3 p.m. on Heart of Florida Field.
