BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 3, 2022) - The Webber International University women's basketball team returned home for its second game in three days, hosting Keiser University in the Sabbagh Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. After holding a five point lead at the half, the Warriors were unable to hang on and suffered a 69-61 defeat to the Seahawks.
Despite shooting more efficiently from the field, the Warriors (1-7 overall, 0-4 SUN) were out-rebounded heavily, 54-33 in total. Keiser (6-4, 1-3) tallied 20 offensive boards and converted 21 second chance points which is what ultimately made the difference.
Webber started the game very slowly on offense, shooting just 12.5 percent in the first quarter. The Seahawks were not much better offensively but were still able to establish a 10-point lead heading into the second quarter. The Warriors flipped a switch in quarter number two as they scored 21 points on just over 47 percent shooting while also forcing Keiser into eight turnovers and 18.2 percent shooting. Triniti Lee gave Webber its first lead of the game at 20-19. A 6-2 run from the Warriors over the last two minutes earned them a 26-21 lead at the break.
A 7-0 run in the first minute of the third quarter extended the Warriors lead to 12 points. Momentum swung back in the direction of Keiser, however, as a 13-2 run cut the lead to just one. The Seahawks continued to battle back and trailed by just three at the start of the fourth quarter. Keiser quickly regained the lead after back to back three's to start off the quarter. The lead was never relinquished again as the Warriors fought to regain the lead but were kept at bay by the visiting Seahawks.
The Warriors were led by senior
Samantha Pacheco with a career-high 20 points and team-highs in rebounds with nine, and assists and steals with three apiece. She was followed by
Alexandria Lemmon with 14 points and five rebounds
Jaida Burgess and Lee each had eight. Burgess ended with two steals defensively while Lee racked up five total blocks on the day, her second-highest tally in a single game so far this year.
Next up, Webber matches up against the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles on Thursday, December 8th. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
