Warriors Outclass Eagles in Dominating Fashion

BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 8, 2022) – The Webber International University women's basketball team hosted the University of Fort Lauderdale on Thursday evening in the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Warriors led from start to finish in what was an 86-34 rout for their second victory of the season.

The Warriors' (2-7 overall) defense was suffocating all game long as they held the Eagles (1-5) to 22.8 percent shooting and only allowed double-digit scoring in one of the four quarters. They also forced their opposition into a staggering 30 turnovers in total. Offensively, Webber shot just over 49 percent in total and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc.

Webber started the game strong on a 7-2 run in the first two minutes, converting its first three attempts, thanks to jumpers from Alexandria Lemmon and Jaida Burgess followed by a three-pointer from Samantha Pacheco. The Warriors continued to extend their lead, playing good defense and capitalizing on the Eagles' mistakes. Webber held a 14-point lead with just over a minute remaining in the quarter.

The Warriors had their most successful quarter offensively in the second quarter, scoring 25 points in total and converting five of their nine attempted threes. Webber held UFTL to just nine points as it continued to pull away, developing a comfortable 28-point lead at halftime.

The second half started off slow for both sides as there were just two baskets in the first two and a half minutes. The scoring picked up for the Warriors, however, as they then went on a 9-3 run over the next two minutes. Webber built its lead to 36 heading into the final quarter of play.

Defensively, the Warriors held UFTL to just two baskets for the whole final quarter of play. Webber continued to have offensive success as it finished off a 52-point victory for win number two on the season thus far.

Pacheco led the Warriors with 21 points, setting a new career-best in back to back games after scoring 20 in the last game against Keiser. She added five assists and four rebounds while also recording career-highs for three's in a game with three and three's in a season with nine. She was followed by Burgess with 19 points on 70 percent shooting while adding seven rebounds and a team-high four steals. Lemmon ended with 13 points followed by Rushell Jacob with 10 and Jamyah Harkins with nine. Triniti Lee led the team with 10 rebounds and tied her season-high of six blocks in a single game. Lee is now ranked third in the nation for blocks per game with 3.3.

Next up, the Warriors will head over to Warner University to participate in the Warner Classic in which they will face No. 9 Carroll College on Saturday, December 17 at 12 p.m. followed by the University of Pikeville the following day at 2 p.m.
