Warriors Fall to No. 14 Keiser on Senior Day

BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 13, 2022) - The Webber International University football team hosted the No. 14 Keiser University Seahawks on Saturday afternoon in what was its final home game of the season as well as Senior Day. The Warriors kept it close in the first half but the Seahawks ultimately pulled away in the second half in a 38-13 defeat.

The Warriors (5-4 overall, 2-3 SUN) and Seahawks (7-3, 6-0) had nearly an equal amount of total offensive yards with Keiser having the slight advantage 364-312. The Seahawks forced two turnovers defensively and avoided turning the ball over themselves while on offense.

Webber began the first drive of the game moving the ball well but were halted after an interception by Keiser was returned to their own three-yard line. Three plays later, the Seahawks scored the first points of the game on a one-yard touchdown rush. Keiser scored on its second offensive possession as well after utilizing the ground game in a 13-play, 59-yard drive, extending the lead to 14-0.

The Warriors responded on their next drive after a 19-yard pass from Blake Birchler to Antonio Dawson took them into Seahawk-territory, followed by a 17-yard touchdown rush by Terry Weems Jr. A failed two-point conversion kept the score at 14-6. Keiser drove down the field yet again into Webber's redzone, but the Warriors defense stood strong and the Seahawks had to settle for a field goal to take an 11-point lead at 17-6 at halftime.

Keiser came out strong in the third quarter scoring twice, once on the ground and once through the air, extending its lead to 31-6. The Seahawks scored once more at the start of the fourth quarter on a 41-yard touchdown rush. The Warriors scored once more late in the fourth quarter after a pass from Kristofer Sippel Jr. to Logan Heath who made an acrobatic catch to make it 38-13.

Sippel Jr. led the team in passing with 88 yards and a touchdown, completing five of his six attempts. Birchler completed 10 of 19 pass attempts for a total of 76 yards. Leading the team in receiving was Frederick Curry Jr. with 53 yards on two catches followed by Heath with 46 yards and a touchdown on four grabs. Taylor Scarbrough and Weems Jr. led the team in rushing with 61 and 53 yards respectively, while Weems Jr. picked up a touchdown as well.

Defensively, Devonte Harris led the team in total tackles with seven followed by Rocky O'Rourke with six and Marquavion Jeter and Caden Morrell each with five.

The Warriors now look forward to the Lake Caloosa Clash in which they face rivals Warner University on Saturday, November 19th, at 7 p.m. in Lake Wales, Florida.
