Women's Soccer Falls for First Time to No. 1 Keiser

BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 8, 2022) - For the first time in 2022, the Webber International University women's soccer team suffered defeat at the hands of the No. 1 nationally-ranked Keiser University Seahawks, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon.

Coming off the back of their first Sun Conference victory of the season against Ave Maria University, the Warriors' (7-1-0 overall, 1-1-0 SUN) seven-match winning streak would come to an end against No. 1 Keiser (10-0-1, 1-0-0). The Seahawks showed why they are the top-ranked team in the country, rattling off an astounding 31 shots. 18 of those were on target while Webber mustered just six shots on goal comparatively. The Warriors are only one of four teams to score a goal against Keiser through its 11 matches thus far.

The first half began with Keiser controlling the majority of possession while in the Warriors' half of the field. However, the Seahawks would generate only a couple of opportunities through the first 20 minutes. In the 21st minute, Keiser crossed the ball into the box and a forward would score the goal but an offside call saw it waived off. The Seahawks opened the scoring roughly two minutes later on a header scored off of a cross. That first goal would open up Keiser's offense as they scored again in the 38th, 40th, and 42nd minutes of the match. The Seahawks held a 4-0 lead at the halftime break.

The Warriors began to have more offense success to start the second half. Weber had six shots within the first16 minutes of the half and forced the Keiser goalie into four saves. In the 85th minute, the Seahawks would tack on another goal to extend their lead to 5-0. The Warriors scored their lone goal in the 88th minute, when a long free-kick from Hannah Esson into the box would fall to Brazil Clark who then swept it pass the goalkeeper into the right-hand side of the goal. Keiser scored one last goal on a counter-attack with only two seconds remaining in the match.

B. Clark leads the Warriors with seven goals in eight matches so far this season while Esson picked up her second assist of the season. Atlanta Kishbaugh played the first half in goal, tallying five saves while Cameron Laine was in net for the second half, recording a season-high seven saves.

The upcoming schedule does not get any easier for the Warriors as they next face No. 9 Southeastern University on Thursday, October 13th at 4 p.m. on the Warrior Grass Field. Webber has not beaten the Fire since 2014.
