HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (October 20, 2022) - The Webber International University women's soccer team traveled to the Savannah College of Art & Design to take on the 12th nationally-ranked Bees on Thursday night. The Warriors struggled at both ends while the Bees put on an offensive showcase, scoring nine goals in total for the match.
SCAD (12-1-1 overall, 4-0-1 SUN) peppered the Warriors' (7-2-2, 1-2-2) goal, rattling off 20 shots in total while Webber was only able to manage just four shots.
Despite not creating many opportunities in the match, the Warriors had the first shot which came through
Leah McDaid and needed saving by the Bees goalie. It did not take long for the Bees to get off the mark, however, as they scored twice within the first eight minutes of the match. SCAD found the back of the net twice more in the first half in the 20th and 40th minutes, extending the lead to 4-0. Webber had a chance to pull one back before halftime, but a shot from Lucia De La Llera rattled off the crossbar.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Warriors once again had the first scoring opportunity as another shot from McDaid needed saving. Unfortunately for Webber, it would be more of the same as the Bees kept their foot on the gas pedal, scoring five more goals in the second half to earn an emphatic 9-0 victory.
The Warriors had just four shots in total, only two of which were on target. Both of those shots on target came through McDaid with the other two shots coming from De La Llera and
Deborah Guillen.
Next up, Webber will take on the Lions of Florida Memorial University on Monday, October 24th at 12:30 p.m., a match that was rescheduled due to Hurricane Ian. It will be the final home match of the season for the Warriors.
