Men's Soccer Earns 3-1 Road Victory over Lions

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. (October 20, 2022) - After falling for the first time all season to No. 7 St. Thomas University, the Webber International University men's soccer team bounced back with a commanding 3-1 victory over Florida Memorial University on the road.

The Warriors (8-1-1 overall, 3-1-1 SUN) looked in firm control of the match, firing off 13 shots on goal, compared to the four of the Lions (1-7-3, 1-3-1).

Florida Memorial would create the first opportunity on goal just over one minute into the match which would need saving by goalkeeper, Gianni Honsel. The Warriors then had a spell of pressure, threatening the Lions' goal. Webber had the majority of possession and opportunities in the first half but still the match remained scoreless at the halftime break.

In the 56th minute, the Warriors opened the scoring after a pass from Ori Sela found Marc Bonafe who scored his fifth of the season to earn a 1-0 lead. The Lions had yet another shot saved by Honsel in the 69th minute and a few minutes later, Webber doubled its lead through Luke Piveral on an assist by Dozie Ozo-Udeze. The Lions pulled one back in the 80th minute, reducing the deficit to just one. However, straight out of the restart, the Warriors scored just 11 seconds later on a solo goal by Ozo-Udeze to regain the two-goal advantage.

Ozo-Udeze displayed his playmaking ability, recording his third goal and fifth assist of the season, which leads all Warriors this season. Piveral scored his sixth goal of the season, making him the second-highest goal scorer behind only Joseph O'Sullivan with seven.

The Warriors have a tough matchup next as they host No. 5 Keiser University on Sunday, October 23rd at 3 p.m. on the Warrior Grass Field.
