THOMASVILLE, Ga. (January 8, 2022) - The Webber International University men's basketball team traveled to Thomasville, Georgia to face Thomas University in a Sun Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. A slow second half offensively from the Warriors led to a 65-51 defeat.
Despite outrebounding the Night Hawks (9-8 overall, 3-4 SUN) 38-23, the Warriors (7-11, 2-4) shot just 39.2 percent from the field compared to Thomas' 48.1 percent.
The Warriors started the game off strong, jumping out to a 14-2 lead in the first four and a half minutes. Webber continued its good start, leading by as many as 15 with just over nine and a half minutes left in the first half. However, Thomas would go on a 25-8 run to end the half and take a two-point lead at halftime at 33-31.
Webber would struggle throughout the course of the second half, shooting just 25 percent from the field and being held to 20 points for the half. The Night Hawks would continue to build upon their lead as the Warriors would be unable to close the gap.
Offensively, the Warriors were led by
Jaylon Myles with 14 points followed by
Jordan Golden with nine and
Tiyon Martin with seven.
Loro Natana and
Benjamin Ross both led the team in rebounds with five each. Myles and Martin each had two steals on the defensive side of things while Ross and
Justin Boyd each had a block.
Next up, the Warriors will travel to Miami Gardens, Florida to face the Lions of Florida Memorial University on Thursday, January 13, at 7:30 p.m.
