MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (January 13, 2022) - The Webber International University men's basketball remain winless in road games so far this season after 103-65 defeat to the Florida Memorial University Lions on Thursday night.
Webber (7-12 overall, 2-5 SUN) outrebounded the Lions (9-6, 5-3) 49-41 in total, however, its was offensive efficiency that made the difference for the home team. Florida Memorial shot an impressive 52.1 percent from the field while the Warriors had a tough night offensively, shooting roughly 33 percent from the field in total as well as from beyond the arch.
The first half set the tone for the rest of the game as the Lions came out hot, shooting just over 58 percent in the first half as well as being perfect from the free throw line. The Warriors struggled to get going in the beginning of the game, being limited to a field goal percentage of just 25.8 percent in the first half. Florida Memorial jumped out to an early lead and maintained that pace through the half, heading into the halftime break up 52-20.
The Warriors improved both offensively and defensively in the second half but it would prove to be too little too late as the Lions kept their momentum and sealed their victory at home.
Chinecherem Anukaenyi was the only double-digit scorer in the game for the Warriors, finishing with 11 points in total, eight of which came in the first half. He was followed by
Tiyon Martin with nine and
Benjamin Ross with eight. Anukaenyi also grabbed three steals on the defensive end.
Jordan Golden and
Gabriel Divic both finished with six points and a team-high five rebounds along with
Terrence Lakes who also grabbed five boards.
The Warriors return home for their next Sun Conference matchup where they will host the St. Thomas University Bobcats at 4 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. Webber returns to its home court for just the one game, however, as it will then travel to face its Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University on the road on Thursday, January 20.
