ENCINITAS, Calif. (January 22, 2022) – After a tough loss on the road, the Webber International University men's volleyball team bounced back with a sweep of its own on Friday afternoon as it took down University of Saint Katherine 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13).
The Warriors (2-2 overall) made huge improvements offensively in the match, hitting a very impressive .513 percent for the match compared to Saint Katherine's (0-3) -.039 percent. Webber was also very effective with its serving, scoring 14 aces in total.
Webber had a great start to each of the three sets, jumping out to an early lead and putting itself in the driver's seat for every set.
Chris Ludwig led the team in kills with nine, followed by
Daniel Hermida and
Gunter Perea Quevedo each with four. Dishing out the assists for the Warriors was
Peyten Young with 19.
Tinaishe Ndavazocheva finished with seven service aces while Hermida was close behind with five of his own.
Lachlan Diamond and Perea Quevedo both ended with five total blocks each.
"The team took the loss the other night as an opportunity to fix both physical and mental errors that were controllable from our side," spoke Head Coach
Carlos Jimenez. "They established themselves early against Saint Katherine and did a much better job of playing their game. Aggressive serving as well as control at the net helped to set the tone of where they should be at this time in their season."
The Warriors end their three-game road stint in California on Saturday, January 22, at 5 p.m. PST as they take on California Lutheran University. The team then returns home to host Edward Waters University on January 27 at 7 p.m.
