LAKE WALES, Fla. (January 20, 2022) - The Webber International University women's basketball team traveled to face its Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, on Thursday evening, resulting in a 72-61 victory. The win extends the Warriors win streak to six games in a row, five of which are Sun Conference victories.
The Warriors (15-4 overall, 7-2 SUN) did an outstanding job of protecting the ball in the game, turning the ball over just four times in total for the game. Webber limited the Royals to just 36.1 percent shooting from the field while capitalizing on their turnovers with 16 points off turnovers.
The first quarter saw the Warriors jump out to an early lead, heading into the second quarter with an eight point lead at 20-12. Offensive struggles would strike in the second quarter as the Warriors would shoot just 21.1 percent. The Royals cut into Webber's lead and trimmed the deficit to just two points at the half at 31-29. Webber would regain its offensive footing in the second half, building upon its lead throughout the rest of the game.
The Warriors were led offensively by
LeAndra Franklin with a game-high 19 points along with leading the team with five steals on the defensive end. She was followed by
Rushell Jacob with 14 points and
Amaya Small and
Jaida Burgess each with 12.
Dasia Wandick finished with 11 rebounds in total, tying her season-high. She was followed by Burgess and
Samantha Pacheco with six rebounds each.
Next, Webber returns home to match up against the Gyrenes of Ave Maria University where it will look to keep its win streak alive on Saturday, Janury 22, at 2 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
