BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 3, 2021) – The Webber International University football team opened their 2021 season Thursday night when it traveled to Columbia, Kentucky to take on the defending NAIA National Champion Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.), resulting in a 58-7 loss.
Lindsey Wilson (1-0 overall) would receive the opening kickoff from Webber (0-1) and proceed to strike first after a 27-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Cameron Dukes to take a 7-0 lead. The Warriors would start their first offensive drive of the season by moving the ball down to the Lindsey Wilson 28-yard line before facing a fourth down and six. A five-yard offside penalty would make it a fourth and one, which would be converted after a three-yard rush by
Tremon Bright. Two plays later, sophomore quarterback
Cody Braden would find
Jacob Moss for an 18-yard touchdown, his first as a Warrior. The ensuing extra point would be converted by
Austin Smith and the Warriors would level the score at 7-7.
The opening drive for the Warriors would be the only time they would get on the board in the game. Webber would end the game with 150 yards of total offense, 80 yards in the air and 70 yards on the ground.
The Warriors were led defensively by
Trent Peacock with eight total tackles. He was followed by
Travonte Haynie and
Tyrese Sanders each with seven total tackles and
Jaren Muse with six. Webber finished with four sacks on the game from Peacock, Haynie,
Danterius Ghant, and
Tanner Peacock.
Next up, the Warriors will take on another top-25 nationally-ranked opponent in the form of No. 13 Georgetown College (Ky.). It will be Webber's home-opener on the Warrior Turf Field on Saturday, September 11 at 1:30 p.m.
