Second-half comeback keeps women’s soccer unbeaten

BABSON PARK, Fla. (September 27, 2021) – The Webber International University women's soccer team scored three second-half goals in a comeback victory over Florida National University on Saturday afternoon on the Warrior Grass Field.

The Warriors (5-0-1 overall) would see the first scoring opportunity as Domenica Pena would have an effort on goal saved. Roughly two minutes later, Webber would earn itself a penalty that Brazil Clark would step up and convert to take the 1-0 lead.

Florida National (1-5-0) would level the score after a goal from Dominique Mosely in the 23rd minute. The Conquistadors would receive a corner kick a little over three minutes before the half, which would be curled into the box and find the head of Mery Jade Yanez to put Florida National ahead, 2-1, going into the half.

A free-kick in the 58th from Hannah Vigotty would find Hayden Rupe in the box, who would slip it past the FNU goalie to even the game at 2-2. It would only take 86 seconds for the Warriors to find another as B. Clark would put a low driven cross into the box that would find the feet of her sister, Versailles Clark, for an easy tap-in at the back post to regain the lead for the Warriors.

V. Clark would score her second goal of the match in the 64th minute off of a through ball from Deborah Guillen. The goal would give Webber a two goal cushion that would be carried through the end of the match.

Natalie Bartek played all 90 minutes in goal for the Warriors, making six saves in total. Five of which came in the second half, helping Webber see out its 4-2 victory.

The Warriors next match will be in Temple Terrace, Florida where they will take on Florida College on Tuesday, September 28, at 7 p.m. for their final nonconference match of the 2021 season. Webber will open Sun Conference play on home soil against Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, on October 2, at 11 a.m.
