Women’s volleyball falls to Coastal Georgia on the road

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (September 23, 2021) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team traveled to Brunswick, Georgia for its second Sun Conference match of the season, resulting in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-16) defeat to the Mariners.

A little under halfway through set one, the Warriors (9-6 overall, 0-2 SUN) trailed 12-11, before the Mariners (14-1, 1-1) would score five-straight to extend their lead to 17-11. Webber would try to fight back, but it would be back-and-forth until the set would end, 25-17, to Coastal Georgia.

The Warriors would start the second set on the right foot, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after a service error, two kills from Nadia Reid, and a kill from Emily Bowen. Coastal Georgia would battle back and retake the lead, 7-6. Webber found itself behind late in the set, 20-14, but would score three-straight points after two kills from Bailey Sikkema and one from Yanileb Figueroa. However, a three-point deficit is as close as the Warriors would come in the set as it finished, 25-20.

Offensively, the Warriors were led in kills by Reid with 11, followed by Bowen with seven, and Sikkema with six. Senior Amanda Vega and junior Ana Clara Araujo led the team in assists, each with 11.

Figueroa led the team in digs, finishing with 10, while Araujo and Nayelis Alvarado each added seven. Reid had three blocks on the defensive side of things, with Savanna Wilhite adding two of her own.

Next up, the Warriors travel to West Palm Beach, Florida to take on Keiser University on Satuday, September 25, at 2 p.m. for the last of their 10-straight road matches. Webber then hosts Florida Memorial on Wednesday, September 29, at 6 p.m. for their first home match in over a month.
