Women’s soccer gets third-straight win to start season

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 10, 2021) – The Webber International University women's soccer team continued their strong start to the 2021 season as they defeated Edward Waters University on the road in Jacksonville, Florida, by a score of 10-2, on Thursday night.

The match would begin scoreless for the first 20 minutes, before the Warriors would then strike first after a goal from Domenica Pena. It would take approximately 20 minutes, but Webber would score twice more in quick succession. First in the 41st minute, a goal from Faith Cullen-Cooper would double the Warrior lead and only two minutes later, Zoe Melo would make it 3-0.

Edward Waters would respond with less than 30 seconds left in the half, after a goal from Rayven Norman would reduce Webber's lead to two going into the half.

The Warriors would come into the second half even stronger, scoring seven more goals in total. Four of which came off the boot of junior-transfer Brazil Clark (54', 56', 84', 87'), for her first hat-trick as a Warrior. Two of those goals came via penalty kicks. Versailles Clark, Briceyda Gomez, and Melo each added a goal as well in the second half.

Melo also led the team with two assists, followed by V. Clark and Pena each with one.

Senior Natalie Bartek would lead the Warriors defensively in between the sticks, saving seven of the Tigers nine total shots on goal.

Next up for the Warriors, will be their fourth-straight game on the road as they battle their Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University in Lake Wales, Florida at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 13. They will follow that with their home-opener against Brewton-Parker College on Saturday, September 18.
