TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (September 10, 2021) – The Webber International University men's soccer team matched up against the Tigers of Trinity College on Thursday night, resulting in an emphatic 7-0 victory for the Warriors.
It was an impressive showing from Webber (2-1 overall) as they outshot Trinity College (0-1), 44-3 in total shots and 22-1 in shots on goal.
It wouldn't take long for the Warriors to take command of the game as
Mateo Fernandez Sassoni would score 11 minutes into the first half and then again roughly six minutes later to give Webber a 2-0 lead.
Daniel Perez and
Eric Longhorn would assist on the first two goals from Sassoni respectively. The Warriors would earn a penalty kick in the 20th minute and sophomore
Jay Skelcher-Maxwell would step up and score the spot kick.
Freshman
Jonathan Hernandez would score his first goal as a Warrior in the 24th minute, coming off an assist from Sassoni to extend the lead to four goals. Just over a minute later,
Jesus Chillon would assist Sassoni to help him complete his first-half hat-trick and give the Warriors a 5-0 lead heading into the half.
Webber would tack on two more late goals in the second half, the first coming in the 77th minute from
Marc Bonafe and assisted by
Zachary Auger. Perez would collect his second assist of the game as
Rodrigo Flores Iraheta would score his first goal of the season in the 84th minute to seal the 7-0 victory.
Alexnder Marciulonis would be in goal for the first 61 minutes, while Felipe Feriera would see out the rest of the match and make the only save of the game for the Warriors. The two would combine for Webber's second clean sheet of the season.
The Warriors return home for their next match as they take on Pensacola Christian College this Saturday, September 11, at 10 a.m. on the Warrior Grass Field.
