BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (April 9, 2021) – The 2021 Webber International University men's volleyball season came to an end in the Mid-South Conference Tournament Semifinals on Friday as the fifth-seeded Warriors fell to top-seeded and No. 3 nationally-ranked Campbellsville University by a final score of 3-0 (29-27, 25-13, 25-16).
In the first set, Webber led 18-16 after a service error by Campbellsville followed by an assisted block by
Gunter Perea Quevedo and
Daniel Hermida. The Warriors then led it 27-26 after two more assisted blocks, but then lost the set on a kill by Campbellsville followed by two Webber attack errors.
Webber then hit -.083 percent in the second set and .000 percent in the third set while Campbellsville hit over .300 percent in both frames.
Hermida finished with nine kills, nine digs and four blocks;
Justin Beecher had 10 assists; and
Peyten Young matched Hermida with four blocks.

Carlos Jimenez said after the match, "It's been a difficult season all-around with COVID looming in the back of all our athletes' everyday activities. I am proud of all my guys for their resiliency and determination to go out there and play the sport they love. We also want to thank all of our seniors this first graduating class for helping to create the legacy of the varsity program. The team made their last effort to reach the finals, and we fell short against Campbellsville, but overall, it was an opportunity to show the potential of this young team at the championships. We look forward to celebrating the team's accomplishments and to continue its growth."
2021 was the Warriors' fourth season as a varsity NAIA program and third year as a member of the Mid-South Conference. During each of the three seasons Webber has lost in the postseason, it has come at the hands of Campbellsville.
Webber finished the 2021 season at 12-11 overall, and set a new program-bests in both overall wins (12) and in conference wins (9).
Other season highlights for the Warriors this year include two sweeps over Reinhardt University, earning its first win over a nationally-ranked team in program history with a 3-2 victory over Life University on March 11. defeating it Crooked Lake rival Warner University for the second time in program history and for the first time under Coach Jimenez, and finally, earning the first postseason win in the history of the program with a 3-1 win over Life yesterday on April 8.
