Baseball wins final nonconference game of 2021 regular season

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 21, 2021) – After taking two out of three games from the Gyrenes during their conference series back in February, the nationally-recognized Webber International University baseball team defeated Ave Maria University one more time in 2021 during its final nonconference game of the regular season. In the end, the Warriors were victorious by a final score of 8-4 on Wednesday on the Heart of Florida Baseball Field while Angel Diaz finished 4-for-4 with three runs batted in.

Norberto Navarro helped give Webber (26-21 overall) the lead in the bottom of the third inning as he doubled to right center field to score Diaz and then scored himself on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 Warriors.

Then in the bottom of the fourth inning, Diaz singled up the middle to score Luis Acevedo and make it 3-1 before Ave Maria (14-29) tied it with two runs in the top of the fifth.

Tied 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth, the Warriors broke the game open with a four-run inning featuring RBI singles by Steven Lugo and Bryan Eusebio, followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Acevedo and then an RBI single by Diaz.

Diaz then came up with his third RBI of the game with a double to left field in the bottom of the seventh to make it 8-3.

Diaz finished the game 4-for-4 while Michael Machnic walked three times.

Starting on the mound for the Warriors was Dylan Martin, who gave up only two hits and one run, but walked four and struck out six batters during his four innings.

Praxie Vigil (1-1) earned the win by pitching 1.2 innings allowing one hit, no runs and one walk.

Kyle Choate pitched two innings in relief allowing two hits, one run, no walks and three strikeouts, and then Matthew Wiseman finished off the final inning in 1-2-3 fashion.
