Baseball opens final series of the regular season with run-rule win over USCB

BABSON PARK, Fla. (April 23, 2021) – The nationally-recognized Webber International University baseball team scored nine runs in the first inning and kicked off its final series of the 2021 regular season with an 18-8 victory in seven innings over the University on South Carolina Beaufort on Friday night on the Heart of Florida Baseball Field.

Webber finished with 21 hits in the game and had 16 RBI's, three home runs, two doubles and two triples. It was the Warriors' season-high in runs, hits, RBI's and home runs in a game.

Eight different Warriors had an RBI in the first inning as Webber ultimately sent 13 batters to the plate. The final three runs of the opening inning for Webber came on back-to-back triples by Rougie Odor and Dominique Collie Jr.

In all, Webber scored in each of the first five innings of the game as Bryan Eusebio hit two solo home runs and Steven Lugo also went yard once.

In the bottom of the seventh, Webber scored three times to reach the 10-run rule as the walk off hit was a two-out single to left field by Odor to score pinch runner Zachary Schneidmiller from second base.

Seven different Warriors finished with at least two hits and five had at least two RBI's while three players scored three times.

Steven Lugo was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI's, Norberto Navarro was 3-for-4, Odor was 3-for-5, and Eusebio was 3-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored.

Xavier Rodriguez (4-3) earned the win allowing 10 hits, eight total runs, four earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts in six innings while Praxie Vigil finished the final inning allowing only one walk.

With what was its ninth straight win over the Sand Sharks, Webber improved to 27-21 overall on the season and 13-9 in The Sun Conference while USCB dropped to 25-18 and 10-12 after entering the weekend with five straight wins under its belt.

Tomorrow on Saturday, April 24, Webber will finish up its series against USCB while also celebrating its Senior Day. Each of the Warriors' seniors for the 2021 season will be recognized prior to first pitch at 12 p.m.
