Game Recap: Softball |

Softball swept by FNU on the road

MIAMI, Fla. (March 24, 2021) – In what was the Warriors' final two nonconference games on the road this season, the Webber International University softball team dropped both games of its mid-week doubleheader at Florida National University. The Warriors lost game one by a score of 4-1 before coming back to lose game two 3-1 on Wednesday at Miami Christian School.

In game one, Victoria Atkinson singled to left field with one out to score Mary-Margaret Maggard from second base and tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning, but an unearned run on a fielder's choice with one out in the bottom of the fifth put FNU back ahead by one before a two-run double to right field with two outs later in the inning.

Webber was held to only three hits in game one, and then found itself behind 3-0 after five innings in game two and did not get onto the scoreboard until the final inning when a two-out single to center field by Krista Hoyt scored Abigail Thompson.

Kayla Swinson pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief in game one and then followed that up with two more scoreless innings at the end of game two to bring her current scoreless innings streak to 10.2 innings.

With its four-game winning streak snapped, Webber fell to 17-15 overall while FNU improved to 13-10 and won its fifth and sixth games in a row, including four straight now against Sun Conference teams.

Webber, which has swept each of its last two Sun Conference series against Thomas University and the University of South Carolina Beaufort, will now turn its attention back to conference action and No. 23 nationally-ranked Southeastern University, which swept the Warriors in two close games during their conference opener back on March 10.
