Franklin’s layup sends Warriors to two-point win over Seahawks in TSC Game of the Week

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 6, 2021) – With only three seconds remaining in the game, senior LeAndra Franklin drove toward the rim and finished with a tough layup to lift the Webber International University women's basketball team to a thrilling 51-49 victory over Keiser University in The Sun Conference Women's Basketball Game of the Week.

The win was the fourth straight victory for Webber (15-6 overall, 11-5 The Sun Conference) over Keiser (12-9, 9-7). It also marked the second year in a row the Warriors swept the Seahawks, and it gave Webber a two-game lead over Keiser for third place in the conference standings.

Webber led 28-19 at halftime after outscoring Keiser 17-9 in the second quarter and holding the Seahawks to only 27.6 percent (8-29) shooting from the field and 0-for-6 shooting from three in the first half. The Warriors also led the game 17-2 in points off turnovers at the break.

Entering the fourth quarter, Webber led it by 10 at 45-35 but saw its lead slowly trimmed to two at 45-43 with 2:44 left as Keiser started the period on an 8-0 run.

The Warriors were 0-for-8 from the field with three turnovers during the first 7:15 of the fourth quarter before two free throws by Dasia Wandick with 2:39 left make it 47-43.

Then after Keiser got to within one at 47-46 with a minute left, Franklin came up with a clutch steal and ensuing layup to make it 49-46 with 35 seconds remaining.

Unfortunately on the next possession for Keiser, the Seahawks took advantage of a second-chance opportunity on a 3-point miss and connected on a second 3-point try to tie the game at 49-49 with 25 seconds on the clock.

From there, Webber took a timeout with 23 seconds left and ran the clock down before Franklin made her move toward the rim to win it.

Franklin finished with only six points, but added five steals.

The leading scorer in the game was Eletra Graham with 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from three while Amaya Small recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

In the deciding fourth quarter, Webber was outscored 14-6 and was held to only 18.2 percent (2-11) shooting, but did a good enough job defensively to hold on for the win after keeping Keiser to only 16.7 percent (3-18) shooting in the fourth quarter and only 27.7 percent shooting for the game.

The Warriors also finished the game with a season-high nine blocks as a team.

Next up for the Warriors will be their second game this season against No. 15 Southeastern University. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
