BRUNSWICK, Ga. (February 4, 2021) – It was a tough outing on the road on Thursday evening for the Webber International University women's basketball team, which suffered a setback in its quest for a top-two seed in The Sun Conference tournament with a 72-57 defeat at the College of Coastal Georgia.
Webber trailed by one possession after both the first and second quarters before falling behind by 10 at 50-40 after three quarters.
Coastal Georgia, meanwhile, outscored Webber 20-13 in the third quarter after going 12-for-15 (80 percent) on free throw attempts in the period, and then it made 12-of-14 (85.7 percent) free throws in the fourth quarter to help put away the Warriors.
Coastal Georgia finished the game 27-of-34 from the free throw line while Webber was only 3-for-11 (27.3 percent).
Individually,
LeAndra Franklin led the Warriors with 17 points while
Paris Copeland had 12 and
Amaya Small had 10.
It was the fifth straight loss against the Mariners for Webber, which fell to 14-6 overall and 10-5 in The Sun Conference. Coastal Georgia, meanwhile clinched a berth into the conference tournament by improving to 9-8 and 7-7.
The Warriors will now return home to the Sabbagh Athletic Center for their third game this week, and for their second meeting this season with Keiser University. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 6. Earlier this season on January 2, Webber defeated Keiser by only two (61-59) on the road.
