THOMASVILLE, Ga. (February 26, 2021) – The nationally-recognized Webber International University baseball team opened up The Sun Conference Series of the Week against Thomas University with a 10-2 victory over the Night Hawks on Friday evening at Varnedoe Stadium.
After Thomas (3-9 overall, 0-4 The Sun Conference) scored first with an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning, Webber (10-7, 5-2) answered right back with a six-run top of the third inning featuring an RBI-walk by
Rougie Odor, a two-run single to left field by
Angel Diaz, a two-run triple by
Dominique Collie Jr., and a sacrifice fly to center field by
Steven Lugo.
Diaz added another RBI-single in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 7-1 Warrior lead at the time.
Diaz would finish 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBI's while Collie Jr. was 2-for-4 with two RBI's, and
Luis Acevedo was 2-for-4. Maybe the most impressive night at the plate for the Warriors, however, came from
Victor Florentino, who was 4-for-4 with three runs scored.
Drake Kasparek (3-2) came in to pitch in the third inning and earned the win, allowing four hits, one run and two walks while striking out six in five innings of work.
Praxie Vigil and
Matthew Wiseman then each pitched one inning allowing one hit and one walk to finish off the night.
Games two and three of the series between Webber and Thomas will start at 12 p.m. tomorrow on Saturday, February 27, as the Warriors look to win their third straight conference series to open the league slate.
