Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors’ rematch against Florida College goes down to the wire in 75-73 defeat

BABSON PARK, Fla. (December 9, 2021) – The Webber International University men's basketball team faced the Florida College Falcons for the second time this season, this time at home. After losing by 26 in the first game, the Warriors battled from start to finish, ultimately falling 75-73.

The Warriors (4-9 overall) outshot the Falcons (11-1) 45.6 percent from the field compared to 40.6 percent. Florida College capitalized on 14 turnovers from Webber, scoring 21 points off turnovers.

The Warriors led for the majority of the first half, with Florida College taking the lead within the last four minutes and holding a 38-34 lead at the halftime break.

The Falcons would lead by as many as 12 points with 13 and a half minutes left in the game. However, Webber would go on a 14-4 run, ending with a three-point shot from Jordan Golden to cut the deficit to just one point at 63-62 with just over six minutes remaining. Back-to-back threes would see the Warriors regain their lead as a three-pointer from Jaylon Myles would put them in front, 65-63.

A missed three-point shot from the Falcons with four minutes left would turn into a fast-break opportunity going the other way as Loro Natana would score a put-back dunk off of a missed layup, putting the Warriors up by six.

Successful three point shots on back-to-back possessions for the Falcons would erase the lead and knot the game up at 73 with one minute left in the game. Florida College would convert two free throws with 18 seconds left to take the lead, 75-73. The Warriors would have chance to retake the lead with a three-point shot but it would rattle off the rim and the Falcons would see out the victory.

Golden was perfect from the field, scoring 15 points and gathering five boards. He was followed by Tiyon Martin with 14 and Terrence Lakes with 13. Martin, Lakes, and Myles all finished with four assists each while Chinecherem Anukaenyi finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and added two blocks to his credit.

Next up, Webber travels to Lakeland, Florida to play two non-conference matchups. The first of which will be on December 13, at 4 p.m. when they battle Grace College. Followed by a game against Brewton-Parker College the very next day at 2 p.m.
