Warriors come up short in physical game against Warner, 79-73

BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 15, 2021) – The Webber International University men's basketball team hosted their Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University, on Monday night. The first matchup between the two rivals in the 2021-22 regular season ended in a 79-73 defeat for the Warriors.

It was a tightly contested game, one that saw seven lead changes and momentum swing in either direction. The Royals (4-1 overall, 1-0 SUN) outshot the Warriors (2-4, 0-2) with a field goal percentage of 46.4% compared to just 39.3%. The two teams had an equal number of turnovers but Warner capitalized more often with 18 points off turnovers while Webber had 13.

The Warriors held a four-point lead at the halftime break at 44-40 and had a seven-point lead, their largest of the game, with just under 16 minutes to go. The Royals would go on a 6-0 run over the next two and a half minutes, cutting the lead to just one point at 54-53.

The game would continue to go back-and-forth until a three-point shot from Warner would knot the game at 61. The Royals would soon take the lead and never relinquish that lead for the remainder of the game.

Jaylon Myles led the Warriors with 17 points, converting six of his seven free throw attempts. He was followed by Chinecherem Anukaenyi, Gabriel Divic, and Terrence Lakes all with 13 points apiece. Anukaenyi finished with a game-high 13 rebounds and earned his first double-double as a Warrior. Following behind was Benjamin Ross with six rebounds and Myles with four.

Defensively, Myles and Tiyon Martin collected three steals while Anukaenyi and Divic each had two.

The Warriors are back in action tomorrow night as they travel to face the University of Fort Lauderdale for the second time this season. A second-half comeback gave the Eagles the victory last time in Babson Park, Florida, 58-52. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow night.
