BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 16, 2021) – In a rematch of the regular-season opener, the Webber International University men's basketball team hosted the University of Fort Lauderdale Eagles on Tuesday night. The Warriors failed to get their revenge, falling to the Eagles 65-62.
The Warriors (2-5 overall) were outscored by the Eagles (2-5) in points in the paint, 38-14, as well as bench points, 32-19. Despite snatching 21 offensive rebounds, the Warriors only capitalized with 10 second chance points.
It was a back-and-forth affair between the two sides for the majority of the game. However, tied at 56 with seven and a half minutes to go, the Eagles would score twice to take the 60-56 lead. With seven seconds left in the game, Webber trailed by three. With four seconds to go, a three-point shot would miss the mark and the Warriors would fail to get up another shot before time expired, sealing the victory for the Eagles.
Tiyon Martin was the Warrior's main force offensively, scoring a season-high 23 points on 60 percent shooting. Following Martin was
Chinecherem Anukaenyi,
Loro Natana, and
Marcus Massey all with six points each. Anukaenyi finished with a game and season-high 18 rebounds.
Jordan Golden finished with seven rebounds while Massey added six.
The Warriors will now face Division I opposition as they travel to Jacksonville, Florida to face the University of North Florida Ospreys in an exhibition match on Saturday, November 20, at 2 p.m.
