Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s basketball falls to Fort Lauderdale in regular-season opener, 58-52

BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 26, 2021) – The Webber International University men's basketball team opened its 2021-22 season on Tuesday night inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. The Warriors hosted the University of Fort Lauderdale and in the end, fell to the visiting Eagles 58-52.

The Warriors (0-1 overall) shot 43.3% in the first half and limited the Eagles (1-0) to just 19 points, holding a 14-point lead going into halftime at 33-19.

The roles would reverse in the second half, however, as the Eagles would find their footing offensively. Fort Lauderdale would go on to shoot 56% from the field in the second half while the Warriors struggled to regain their rhythm, shooting just 19.4%.

The Eagles would take the lead for the first time in the game at 42-41, with just over 10 minutes to play after a three-pointer from Jongkor Unguec. Unguec was the driving force behind Fort Lauderdale's offense, finishing with 28 points. A layup with one minute to go would extend their lead to 11 and virtually seal the game.

Offensively, the Warriors were led by junior Tiyon Martin finishing with 12 points followed by Loro Natana with 10 and Jaylon Myles with eight. Martin added six rebounds and three steals to his credit as well. Natana would finish one rebound shy of a double-double with nine. Jordan Golden followed closely behind collecting eight rebounds.

Golden would lead the team defensively earning five steals followed by Martin and Justin Boyd each with three.

The Warriors will be back in action this Thursday, when they host Point University on October 28, at 7:30 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
