WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 23, 2021) - The Webber International University women's soccer team traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday afternoon and conceded six goals to the No. 2 nationally-ranked Keiser University Seahawks in a 6-1 defeat.
The Seahawks (12-1-0 Overall, 7-0-0 SUN) were led by Kyoka Koshijima and Maya Lundman who scored two goals each. The Warriors' (10-3-1 Overall, 4-3-0 SUN) lone goal came off the foot of junior Domenica Pena.
The Seahawks opened the scoring in the 18th minute after a header from Koshijima. Just six minutes later, Koshijima fed teammate Lundman for her first goal of the day. Another goal off the head of Koshijima in the 35th minute closed the scoring for the first half and sent the Seahawks into halftime, up 3-0.
The second half saw continued pressure from the Seahawks, as the Warriors were outshot 28-2 in the match. Lundman connected on her second goal in the 51st minute and Ramona Kannady and Ellen Maund found the back of the net in the 53rd and 72nd minute.
The Warriors got on the board in the 65th minute when senior Emilie Velez played a cross to Pena. Pena placed the ball past the outstretched keeper to pull one back for the Warriors, but it would not be enough.
With the victory, the Seahawks secured The Sun Conference regular season title and pushed the Warriors to sixth in the conference with two games left on the schedule. The Warriors travel to No. 9 Southeastern University on Thursday, October 28, and then to Thomas University on Saturday, October 30, to finish out the 2021 regular season.
