Warriors force overtime, but come up short against No. 4 Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 23, 2021) - The Webber International University men's soccer team battled hard but ultimately fell to the No. 4-ranked Keiser Seahawks in overtime, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon in what was the final regular season game of the year.

The Seahawks (10-1-1 Overall, 6-0-1 SUN) opened the scoring in the 40th minute on a Lucca Carvalho shot that slipped past the outstretched arms of senior goalkeeper Alex Marciulonis. The Warriors (8-5-2, 2-4-2) were outshot 12-2 in the first half.

The second half saw a very physical style of play from both sides. The Warriors battled the entire half and in the final minute of play, they saw their effort pay off. With just 50 seconds left on the game clock, junior Rodrigo Flores Iraheta played a long ball to junior Giovani Galeb, who put a brilliant cross to the foot of freshman Marc Bonafe. Bonafe fired a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner for the equalizer.

Overtime needed just six minutes before Vincent Piwernetz put one past the goalie and into the side netting to earn the victory for the Seahawks.

"This was our sixth overtime game this season and unfortunately this one was not to go our way," said Head Coach Neil Cockburn. "I am very proud of the boys with how they played, battling as a team and never giving up. I could not ask more of them."

The Warriors will now wait to see their draw for The Sun Conference tournament which begins November 6. Webber is currently in fifth position in The Sun Conference.
