Warriors unable to sink Mariners in home matchup

BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 20, 2021) – The Webber International University women's volleyball team faced the College of Coastal Georgia for the second time in the 2021 season, this time on their home court, on Wednesday night. In the end, the Warriors fell to the visiting Mariners 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-12, 25-15).

The Warriors (10-12 overall, 1-8 SUN) started the match strong after being tied 10-10 in the first set, Webber scored five straight to jump out to a 15-10 lead and ultimately capturing the set, 25-22.

Coastal Georgia (21-3, 6-3) took charge for the rest of the match, capturing the next three sets and seeing out the 3-1 victory.

Bailey Sikkema led the Warriors offensively with 11 kills followed by Emily Bowen with six and Nadia Reid and Savanna Wilhite each with five kills. Amanda Vega and Ana Clara Araujo continued to dish out the assists with 16 and 10 respectively.

Defensively, Webber was led by Kayce Kavanaugh who collected 17 digs while Gabriela Lopez finished with 10 and Araujo with nine. Junior-transfer Teodora Ranitovic made five of the Warriors' 10 total blocks.

"The crowd was such a joy tonight and the Breast Cancer Awareness event went so well," spoke Head Coach Matt Geer. "We were happy to see successful the event was and how smoothly the staff ran it. I want to thank them for a great event. We came out strong winning the first set, but we had a difficult time staying in rhythm throughout the night. Our on-court mentality and maturity is looking much better as we develop our culture this year."

Next up, the Warriors will host the Keiser University Seahawks for their fourth-straight home match in a row on Saturday, October 23, at 2 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
