BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 2, 2021) – The Mid-South Conference opening match for the Webber International University football team ended in a 21-0 defeat for the Warriors against the Fire of Southeastern University, Saturday afternoon on the Warrior Turf Field.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Warriors (0-4 overall, 0-1 SUN) would have their first scoring opportunity to score after a 34-yard pass from
Kristofer Sippel Jr. to
Jacob Moss, down to Southeastern's 35-yard line. After a delay of game penalty on 4th and 7 made it 4th and 12 from the 25, Webber would send out the kicking unit for a 42-yard field goal attempt, but the kick would be wide left.

Later in the second quarter, the Fire would break off on a 35-yard rush but would be chased down by freshman
Michael Crumpton who would force a fumble and recover it for the Warriors at their own five-yard line. The next drive would start with
Cody Braden taking over at quarterback. Braden started strong after a 14-yard rush and a 44-yard pass to
Freddie Hughley to drive the Warriors down to the Southeastern 37-yard line. However, the drive would stall at the 22-yard line, forcing another field goal attempt that would miss wide right.

Southeastern would score on their very next drive, going 78 yards in 9 plays after a 32-yard touchdown pass just before halftime. Webber would drive down, trying to get points on the board before the half, but a turnover would end the drive and the half.

The Fire would score a touchdown in each of the final two quarters and see out the 21-0 victory.

Offensively the Warriors were led by
Tremon Bright with 105 yards rushing on 17 attempts, good for an average of 6.2 yards per carry. It is the second week in a row that Bright has rushed for over 100 yards. Braden finished the game completing eight passes on 20 attempts for a total of 106 yards through the air. Hughley led the Warriors with six receptions for 87 yards followed by Moss with two catches for 49 yards.

The leading tackler in the game for Webber was
Joseph Burton with 11 total tackles, including a forced fumble and a pass break-up. He was followed by
Jamon Jones and
Danterius Ghant who each had nine total tackles, and
Trent Peacock with seven. Ghant had a sack and a forced fumble as well.

It will be Homecoming Weekend for the Warrior football team next weekend as they host St. Thomas University for their second Sun Conference game on Saturday, October 9, at 1:30 p.m.
