Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors battle hard in two-point loss at Coastal Georgia

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (January 16, 2021) – The Webber International University men's basketball team battled back to make it a one-possession game in the final 10.5 seconds of the contest, but in the end, was unable to tie it or take the lead as the Warriors fell on the road at the College of Coastal Georgia by a final score of 74-72.

Trailing by nine points at 70-61 with 3:15 remaining in the game, a 3-pointer and then a layup both by Jaylon Myles made it only a four-point deficit for Webber at 70-66 with 2:13 left to play.

In the final minute, a free throw by Eddie Davis made it a four-point game again at 72-68, and then an offensive rebound and put back layup by Davis made it a one-possession game at 72-70.

The Warriors would then send the Mariners to the free throw line with 10.5 seconds left, and a miss on the first attempt followed by a make on the second made it 73-70.

From there, Rasheem Etienne went coast-to-coast for the quick layup to make it a one-point game at 73-72 with 5.5 seconds on the clock.

Webber would send Coastal Georgia to the free throw line again, and two misses left the door open for the Warriors, but unfortunately they could not grab the rebound, and were forced to send the Mariners back to the line with only 1.8 seconds to go.

Coastal Georgia again missed its first free throw attempt, but made the second, and then Webber stepped over the end line trying to throw the ball down court to essentially end the game on a turnover.

Myles led both teams in scoring with 24 points, but was one of only five Warriors to enter the scoring column as Etienne had 16 points, Davis had 15, Kris Goettert had 10, and Loro Natana had seven to go along with a game-high eight rebounds.

Webber, which is now officially at the halfway point of its conference schedule in 2020-21, fell to 7-13 overall and 3-7 in The Sun Conference while Coastal Georgia earned its third straight win this week to improve to 7-5 and 5-4.

Next up, Webber returns home to play against its Crooked Lake rival Warner University for the second time this season. The Warriors and the Royals will tipoff at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center. Webber fell to Warner 79-72 in the first meeting between the two teams this year on November 21 in Lake, Wales, Florida.
