BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 14, 2021) – After it was the Warriors who defeated the Bobcats 67-54 at home back on December 3, this time around, it was St. Thomas University that defeated the Webber International University men's basketball team by a final score of 63-48 on Thursday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
It was the lowest scoring output of the season for Webber, which fell to 7-12 overall and 3-6 in The Sun Conference while St. Thomas, which had only played twice since the first meeting this season between the two teams, improved to 5-4 and 4-3.
The Warriors shot only 6-for-28 in the first half and were 1-for-10 from three, and their only two field goals through the first 14 minutes of the game came from
Kris Goettert as they trailed 21-9 with 5:50 left in the first half.
Then after trailing by 19 at 48-29 with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game, a layup by
Jovon Rosse started a 14-2 Warrior run to get Webber's deficit back down to seven at 50-43 with 5:11 on the clock. However, St. Thomas responded with two baskets to go back up by double-digits at 54-43 with only 4:17 left to play.
In the end, Webber's .071 3-point percentage (1-14) was also its lowest of the year.
Goettert and
Rasheem Etienne both finished with 11 points while Goettert also added a team-high eight rebounds.
Jaylon Myles had nine points,
Eddie Davis and seven points and seven boards, and Rosse finished with a career-high six points.
Next up for the Warriors will be a road game at the College of Coastal Georgia starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, January 16, in Brunswick, Georgia.
