Bartlett records 32 digs as Warriors fall 3-1 against Viterbo

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2020) – Steven Bartlett recorded a career-high 32 digs and Kyle Robertson dished out 27 assists, but it all came in a losing effort as the Webber International University men's volleyball team came up short against Viterbo University (Wis.), falling 3-1 (25-27, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22) after winning the first set by two.

In addition to Bartlett's 32 digs and Robertson's stat line of 27 assists, six digs and four kills, there were a few other ridiculous stat lines for the Warriors on the night.

Aa a team, the Warriors had a season-high 69 total digs.

Daniel Hermida recorded a double-double with 15 kills and a career-best 10 digs, and Tim Rouch Jr. had a double-double as well with 15 assists and 10 digs. It was Hermida's first career double-double and was the second in three matches for Rouch Jr.

Justin Beecher recorded a season-high 12 kills with a .393 attack percentage and also had four digs.

Orlando Fletcher had 11 kills and a career-high six digs, and Bryant Herrera recorded eight kills to go along with a .353 attack percentage.

After Webber won the close first set with three straight points on a kill by Beecher followed by a service ace by Fletcher and a kill by Hermida, the Warriors still lost a close second set by two despite Viterbo hitting only .034 percent in the set.

In the third set, the V-Hawks hit a very strong .406 percent and led 19-9 before winning it by 10, and then in the fourth set Webber led 8-2 but could not hold on. The Warriors still led at 19-15 before a 9-1 run for Viterbo featuring six errors by Webber.

"Tonight's match was a little bit of a setback for the guys," spoke Head Coach Carlos Jimenez. "We had inconsistencies on our block and defense and we just could not terminate on some of the plays. The team will need to revise some of their responses so that they can get back to the normal competitive level they are capable of doing and to ready for upcoming conference play."

In two days, the Warriors will host NCAA Division-II Limestone College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
