BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 8, 2020) – Junior
Ricky Neyman homered twice in game one, including a walk off three-run home run to win it in the bottom of the seventh, and then he added another three-run homer to cap off the scoring in game two as the No. 16 Webber International University baseball team won by scores of 9-8 and 10-2 in two seven-inning games over the University of St. Francis (Ill.).
Neyman's first home run of the day was a solo shot to center field to lead off the bottom of the third inning of game one and tie the score up at 1-1.
Then after the Fighting Saints scored twice on a two-out double to break a 6-6 tie in the top of the seventh, Neyman came up huge with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, smashing his second home run of the game to left center field to score both
Gene Reid II and
Nick Martinez and win the game in walk off fashion.
Neyman was 2-for-3 with five RBI's and a sacrifice fly in game one while
Bryan Eusebio was 2-for-3 and
Norberto Navarro was 2-for-4.
In game two, the Warriors led 2-0 after only one inning on an RBI-single by
Carlo Mancillas scoring Navarro and an RBI-groundout by Eusebio scoring Mancillas.
The Warriors then doubled their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the second and then went up 5-0 in the bottom of the third thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Jack Howard scoring
Victor Florentino.
In the bottom of the sixth, Webber added five more runs on a two-run single to center field by Eusebio followed by Newman's third home run of the day, a three-run shot to center.
Five different Warriors finished with multiple hits in game two as Mancillas was 3-for-4 with a double and a stolen base, Florentino was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a double, Newman was 2-for-3 with three RBI's, Navarro was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a triple, and
Rougie Odor was 2-for-4 with two runs and a double.
Freshman
Bryce McDonaldd (4-2) earned the win in game two by allowing only four hits and one walk through the first five innings while also striking out four batters. McDonald stranded the bases loaded in both of the second and third innings.
Next up for Webber baseball will be a nonconference game against Sun Conference foe Keiser University at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, on the Heart of Florida Baseball Field.
