SAVANNAH, Ga. (February 3, 2020) – The Webber International University men's and women's tennis teams both lost on the road at SCAD Savannah on Saturday, February 1, in Savanah, Georgia, as the men fell by a score of 5-2 and the Lady Warriors were swept 7-0 against the No. 5-ranked team in NAIA women's tennis.
Notable Men's Results:
Doubles
- Despite play with a short-handed lineup featuring only four players for the second match in a row, the Warriors came together to steal the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead into singles action.
- Ivan Bondarenko and Kyle Hall improved to 2-0 on the season at No. 1 doubles with a 6-3 win, and then at No. 2 doubles Matthew Alexander and Marc Schneider won 6-4 to pick up their first win of the season.
Singles
- Despite entering singles action up 1-0 and getting a win in the No. 1 singles spot by Ivan Bondarenko (6-3, 6-3), the Warriors were unable to pull off the other two wins needed to win their first match of the season.
- Matthew Alexander fell 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 at No. 2 singles, Marc Schneider lost 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and Kyle Hall won the first set before ultimately falling in three sets in the No. 4 spot 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
- Webber fell to 0-2 both overall and in The Sun Conference while SCAD Savannah improved to 1-1 in both categories.
Notable Women's Results:
Doubles
- For the second match in a row, the Warriors were swept in all three doubles matches with the closet result coming in a 6-3 loss at No. 1 doubles by Jenna Fosdick and Lily-Rose Rochat.
Singles
- The only singles match that was relatively close for the Warriors was at the No. 4 spot, where Svenja Koenig fell 7-5, 6-2.
- Webber fell to 0-2 both overall and in The Sun Conference while No. 5 SCAD Savanah improved to 1-1 in both categories.
Next Up: The Warriors next regular-season match will be their home opener against the University of the Cumberlands, which is ranked No. 17 in the NAIA on the women's side and No. 20 on the men's side, on Sunday, February 9. Then, Webber's next conference match will be at home against Keiser University on Saturday, February 15. The Seahawks are currently ranked No. 2 in the country on the women's side and are No. 7 on the men's side.
