BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 8, 2020) – The second straight home game for the Webber International University men's basketball team resulted in a second straight win for the Warriors as this time around, Webber came out on top 60-52 in a low-scoring affair over Southeastern Baptist College on Sunday inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
With Webber (2-3 overall) leading by 18 at halftime at 39-21 and then leading by 22 at 55-33 on a layup by
Kris Goettert with 8:24 left to play, the win for the Warriors never really felt in doubt despite the Chargers getting back to within 10 at 57-47 with only two minutes left to play.
In all, it was a 14-2 run for Southeastern Baptist to make it close at the end as the Chargers also outscored the Warriors by 10 (31-21) in total in the second half.
Webber's Head Coach
Gabriel Rutledge said, "I'm proud of our guys for battling through adversity today. We started off the game playing well, but we were a little short-handed tonight. Different guys stepped up at different times, and overall, we played good team basketball. I was also pleased with our focus on the defensive end. Go Warriors."
Leading the Warriors in scoring and finishing with his second straight double-double was Goettert with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Justin Boyd was next with 16 points while adding eight rebounds, and
Jaylon Myles had 15 points while also finishing only one rebound shy of a double-double himself with nine.
Loro Natana had seven rebounds and two blocks, and
Eddie Davis and
Herman Robinson both finished with five rebounds while Davis also dished out seven assists and Robinson added four assists and three steals.
With the win, Webber improved to 4-0 all-time against Southeastern Baptist, but previously had an average margin of victory of 17 points per game against the Chargers before the eight-point win this time around.
