BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 3, 2020) – Newcomer
Amaya Small poured in a game-high 23 points to help lead the Webber International University women's basketball team in its 2020-21 season opener, an 83-56 win at home for the Warriors over Florida National University.
Small did her damage on 8-for-13 shooting from the field and 7-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. The junior transfer and native of Lakeland, Florida, also finished with six rebounds, four steals and two blocked shots.
Two other Warriors reached double digits in scoring during game number one of the season as senior
Paris Copeland had 15 points and was 7-of-8 from the free throw line while fellow-senior
LeAndra Franklin added 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting overall and a 3-for-4 mark from 3-point range. Franklin also finished with four assists and three steals.

Leading Webber (1-0 overall) in rebounding was junior
Thalia Jackson with a career-high 14 boards. She also added a career-best five steals and had six points.
Other key contributors for the Warriors included newcomers
Dasia Wandick and
Rushell Jacob both with eight points and six boards, sophomore
Samantha Pacheco with four assists, and freshman
Emma Parrish with one of Webber's five 3-pointers in the game.
After leading by 10 at halftime at 39-29, Webber outscored Florida National (1-2) 27-11 in the third quarter to lead it by 24 (66-40) heading into the final 10 minutes. The Warriors held the Conquistadors to only 3-for-13 shooting (23.08 percent) while hitting 10-of-18 shots (55.56 percent) themselves in the period.
In all for the game, Webber outscored FNU 38-16 on points in the paint, 44-16 in points off turnovers and 29-5 in fast break points.
The Warriors will remain at home for another nonconference game as Webber hosts Florida College at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, November 6. Then the following week on Thursday, November 12, Webber will open up official Sun Conference play on the road at Ave Maria University.
