BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 6, 2020) – After scoring 23 points in the Warriors' home opener three days ago, newcomer
Amaya Small scored a game-high 22 points this time around to pace the Webber International University women's basketball team to its second home win in a row to kick off the 2020-21 season. The Warriors defeated the Falcons by a convincing score of 86-69 on Friday evening inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
Despite Webber (2-0) defeating Florida College by 30 points twice last season, the matchup this time around was highly anticipated by both teams as Florida College (3-1) came in undefeated on the season with three wins over three teams from The Sun Conference (College of Coastal Georgia, Keiser University, Warner University).
The win also secured the first 2-0 start to a season for the Warriors under Head Coach
Grady Morrell, and was Webber's first time starting 2-0 since the 2007-08 season.
In addition to Small's 22 points, she had a great stat line overall adding eight rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.
Two other Warriors also finished in double digits in scoring while adding four assists and two or more steals.
Paris Copeland had 18 points, four assists and two steals, and
LeAndra Franklin had 14 points, five steals and four assists.
Leading the team in assists was
Samantha Pacheco with five, while she was also next in scoring with seven points.
Dasia Wandick finished with six points,
Rushell Jacob had 11 rebounds, and
Paulette Burke had eight boards.
As a team, the Warriors opened up both the third and fourth quarters on 9-0 runs and led it by 20 (70-50) with 8:20 left in the game.
"It was a good win, but we still have to get better with communication on defense," spoke Coach Morrell.
With two wins already under its belt, next up for Webber will be the official start of Sun Conference play as the Warriors head to Ave Maria University for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff on Thursday, November 12.
