BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 23, 2020) – Prior to the beginning of the 2021 Webber International University baseball season, Head Coach Collin Martin has announced a few updates to the Warrior baseball coach staff. Andy Polk has resigned from his position as pitching coach, and Matt Saliba has been promoted to the role of Recruiting Coordinator. Additionally, new staff members include Tyler Pike as the new pitching coach, and Levi Borders, Matt Hockenberry and Webber baseball alum Willie Carter as new assistant coaches.

Andy Polk – resigns as Pitching Coach to rejoin the staff at South Florida State College:

Thoughts from Coach Martin: "While it is tough losing Andy, we are certainly thankful for his devotion to Webber baseball and are excited for what is to come for him. He has been a big part of our success here since 2017, and we all wish he and his family the best down the road."

Tyler Pike (new Pitching Coach) and Levi Borders (new Assistant Coach):

Thoughts from Coach Martin: "I have known both Tyler and Levi for a long time. Both guys were great local talents from Winter Haven High School, both guys had great playing careers, and both come from baseball pedigrees. I was able to spend some time around both of these guys coming into high school where they had standout careers, and have kept up with them ever since. We are lucky and excited to have two men of their caliber join our program here at Webber."

Tyler Pike (Pitching Coach):
  • Winter Haven High School Graduate
  • Louisville Slugger High School All-American
  • Florida State University Signee
  • 3rd Round Pick – Seattle Mariners 2012
  • 3-Time MiLB All-Star (2012,2013, 2017)
  • 9 Years of professional baseball experience
  • Wife Gina, son Stetson, daughter Collins – resides in Avon Park
Thoughts from Coach Martin: "Tyler will be replacing Andy as our new pitching coach. He has spent his career around a high level of baseball, and I believe those experiences will serve our players and program well."

Levi Borders (Assistant Coach):
  • Winter Haven High School Graduate
  • 11th Round Pick – Atlanta Braves 2012
  • At University of South Florida (Graduated, Bachelors)
  • 2016 Preseason All-American Athletic Conference
  • 2015 Johnny Bench Award semifinalist
  • 2015 Unanimous First-Team All-American Athletic Conference
  • 2014 Second-Team All-American Athletic Conference
  • 2019-2020: Head Baseball Coach Lake Wales High School
  • Son of 17-year MLB veteran Pat Borders
  • Resides in Lake Wales
Thoughts from Coach Martin: "Levi established himself as a great college baseball player, and would have been a great professional if not for some lingering and detrimental health issues at the end of his college career. He was a very successful high school and NCAA Division-I player who also has spent most of his life around the highest level of baseball. Levi gained some experience managing personnel as a local high school head coach, and will help us here with everything from catchers, infielders, hitters, and even pitchers to some degree."

Matt Hockenberry and Willie Carter (new Assistant Coaches):

Matt Hockenberry (Assistant Coach):
  • South Western High School (PA) Graduate
  • 9th Round Pick – Philadelphia Phillies 2014
  • At Temple University (Graduated, Bachelors)
  • 2014 All-Big 5
  • Currently serves as a pitching coach in the Philadelphia Phillies organization (most recently for the Lakewood Blue Claws of the South Atlantic League)
  • Fiancé Leah – resides in Lake Wales
Thoughts from Coach Martin: "Matt's fulltime job is a Minor League Pitching Coach within the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He spends his offseason here in Lake Wales, and we are excited that he can come help in his downtime. Matt was a ninth round pick out of Temple University and also pitched in Double A in the Phillies organization. He is going to be able to help not only our arms, but with all things baseball."

Willie Carter (Assistant Coach):
  • Fort White High School Graduate
  • 34th Round Pick – Atlanta Braves 2019 (Currently playing)
  • At Webber International University (Currently finishing degree)
    • 2019 NAIA First-Team All-American
    • 2019 First-Team All-Sun Conference
Thoughts from Coach Martin: "Willie's name is all over our record books here at Webber, and he is still amidst his professional career. We are proud that Willie has returned to work on his degree and help our players in his offseason. Willie's familiarity with the program and his experiences since Webber will be an asset to our guys."

Matt Saliba – promoted to Recruiting Coordinator

Thoughts from Coach Martin: "Matt will be promoted to the role of Recruiting Coordinator. He will maintain his title as Head JV Coach along with his new responsibilities, as well as continue to help with our varsity program. Matt coming into his own as a coach comes as no surprise. He was one of the top second basemen in the country his senior year here and was an integral part of one of the most successful teams in Webber baseball history."
