BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 14, 2020) – The strong 2020 season for the Webber International University men's soccer team came to an end on Tuesday as the Warriors came up short on the road during The Sun Conference semifinals at No. 22 Keiser University. In the end, the Warriors fell to the Seahawks by a final score of 5-1.
The Warriors, who were coming off of their first postseason win since the 2006 season when Webber advanced all the way to the semifinals of the NAIA National Tournament, found themselves behind 1-0 six and a half minutes into the match.
Webber then trailed 3-0 at halftime after two goals by Keiser in a two-minute span. The Warriors' only shot attempt of the first half came high from
David Negrin Ruiz less than three minutes before the intermission.
After two more goals in a less than three-minute span by Keiser early in the second half to make the score 5-0, Webber got on the board in the 79th minute on a goal by
Agustin Sanda assisted on a free kick by
Jay Skelcher-Maxwell.
Head Coach
Neil Cockburn said, "The boys went into the first half giving Keiser too much respect, however, in the second half, we played with heart and showed Keiser who we really are. However, I am looking forward to working with the boys in the Spring and preparing for next Fall. The potential is there to be at the level that Keiser is at."
Webber finished its season at 6-8 overall while Keiser remained undefeated at 13-0 and will head to the TSC Tournament Championship match. The Warriors also finished the season 4-2 at home but were 2-6 in road matches.
