Men’s soccer defeats Warner for third time in 2020 to advance to TSC semifinals

BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 14, 2020) – In what was the Warriors' first Sun Conference Tournament match since the 2013 season, the Webber International University men's soccer team defeated Warner University for the third time this season to advance to the TSC Tournament semifinals. In the end, fourth-seeded Webber was victorious 3-1 over fifth-seeded Warner on the Warrior Grass Field.

Webber got off to a great start in the first half, leading 1-0 15 minutes in on a goal by freshman Jay Skelcher-Maxwell with the assist by senior David Negrin Ruiz. It was the fourth goal of the season by Skelcher-Maxwell, and was the second assist by Negrin Ruiz.

The Warriors then made it 2-0 in the 35th minute on a goal by Daniel Perez assisted by Dashaun Morris, and then the lead became 3-0 in the 69th minute when Morris scored himself after a through ball from Neftali Arellano.

Skelcher-Maxwell and Negrin Ruiz both finished with four shot attempts on the match while Perez, Morris and Andy Obregon each added two.

"I am very proud of my team's performance today," spoke Webber Head Men's Soccer Coach Neil Cockburn. "We dominated for the majority of the game, and I feel that when we were full strength as a team, it's the best they have played all season. We just got to get as healthy as possible in the next two days and put in a performance to remember against Keiser."

Webber is now 6-7 overall on the season and will live to see another day in The Sun Conference Tournament while Warner finished its year up at 2-10-1 overall. It was also the fifth straight win for the Warriors over the Royals, and was Webber's third straight win of exactly two goals over its rival.

Next up is The Sun Conference Tournament semifinals as the Warriors will have to take on The Sun Conference Regular-Season Champions and the the top-seed of the tournament, No. 22 Keiser University, on the road at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17. The Seahawks are currently undefeated on the season at 12-0 overall, but each of the Warriors' previous matchups against them so far this season have been competitive scores of 2-0 at home and then 3-0 on the road.
