BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 12, 2020) – The bracket and schedule for the 2020 Sun Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament have been set, and the fifth-seeded Webber International University Warriors will play at fourth-seeded St. Thomas University at 6 p.m. on Friday, November 13, in Miami Gardens, Florida.
In its second season under Head Coach
Gretchen Hand, Webber finished the season 4-10 overall and 2-9 in the conference, and earned the tiebreaker in the league standings over Warner by beating the Royals in their one meeting during the regular season. St. Thomas, meanwhile, finished 9-6 and 7-6 after sweeping the Warriors twice during the regular season.
Highlights from the season so far for Webber include:
- Winning four straight matches to start the season 4-1 overall and 2-1 in The Sun Conference.
- A thrilling 3-2 comeback win for Webber over their Crooked Lake rival Warner University on September 16 to give the Warriors their first conference win of the season.
- A 3-1 home win on September 19 over Florida Memorial University, the team picked to finish second in the conference's preseason coaches' poll, to finish off the four-match winning streak.
- Freshman libero Kiersten Tisdale earning back-to-back Sun Conference Defender of the Week honors. She first won the award on September 21 after averaging 4.89 digs per set in Webber's wins over Warner and FMU, and then she won the award again the following week on September 28 after averaging 6.33 digs per set during the Warriors' first match of the season against St. Thomas.
The Warriors finished the regular-season ranking as one of the top teams in all of the NAIA in service aces, ranking 12th in total service aces (108) while also finishing 17th in service aces per set (2.12).
Individually, Tisdale ranks second in The Sun Conference and 11th in the NAIA in total service aces with 27 while junior
Amanda Vega is fourth in the conference and 49th nationally with 21 aces.
Additionally, Tisdale is also fifth in the conference in both total digs (170) and in digs per set at (3.9) while Vega is seventh in both total assists (227) and in assists per set (4.9). Last but not least, senior
Svenja Koenig ranks eighth in the league in blocks per set (0.8) and is 11th in total blocks (33).
