WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (October 17, 2020) – The Webber International University women's soccer team took on the tough challenge of battling the No. 1-ranked team in all of the NAIA on Saturday, but in the end, the Warriors fell by a score of 7-1 against the Seahawks of Keiser University.
The lone goal of the match for Webber (3-5-1 overall, 1-5-0 The Sun Conference), was scored by junior
Sophia Kenny, who put the ball past the near post off a long free kick from senior
Sarah Thigpen with less than five minutes remaining.
It was the first goal for the Warriors against Keiser (6-0, 5-0) since the 2013 season, which covered a span of seven matches, and was also the third goal of the week for Kenny after netting two scores in a 2-1 win for Webber at home over Florida National University four days ago on Tuesday, October 13.
Webber's only other two shots in the match came from
Leah Borders and
Malia Domingo.
Goalkeepers
Natalie Bartek and
Cameron Laine split the first and second halves, respectively, while Laine made a season-high eight saves in the second half and Bartek made three in the first.
For the Seahawks, Maja Lundman had a hat trick, Maja Henriksson scored twice, and Alicia Drott finished with four assists.
With only four matches remaining in the regular season, Webber will head back down South in one week for its next match as the Warriors travel to Miami Gardens, Florida, to take on St. Thomas University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, October 24. Last season, the Warriors pushed the Bobcats to overtime before falling 3-2 during Webber's season finale.
