BABSON PARK, Fla. (October 13, 2020) – Junior
Sophia Kenny netted two first half goals as the Webber International University women's soccer team defeated Florida National University 2-1 in what was the Warriors' final nonconference match of the 2020 season.
All of the scoring came within a six-minute span starting with only 10 minutes left in the first half as Kenny's first goal was tapped into the back post after the low cross into the box by
Charlee Lutton.
Then in the 41st minute, FNU (0-3 overall) tied it at 1-1 on a goal assisted on by the goalkeeper, but fortunately Kenny was there for the response only 18 seconds later as
Sarah Thigpen assisted on the second goal by the junior forward from Southbury, Connecticut.
Webber (3-4-1 overall) was led in shots by Thigpen with seven, four of which were on goal.
Goalkeeper
Natalie Bartek made three saves and earned her second win of the season.
Next up for the Warriors will be an extremely difficult matchup on the road on Saturday, October 17, as Webber travels South to West Palm Beach, Florida, to take on the No.1-ranked team in the NAIA, Keiser University. Keiser has defeated Webber by equal scores of 7-0 during each of the last two seasons. Kickoff between the Warriors and the Seahawks this time around is set for 2 p.m.
